Don't underestimate Opals, Jackson warns

Updated June 22, 2012 16:54:47

Australian basketball superstar Lauren Jackson believes that despite the USA's on-court dominance the Opals have a shot at an Olympic upset in London.

Jackon was named for her fourth Olympic team on Friday as Basketball Australia announced the men's and women's squads for London.

Australia's men's team will benefit from the presence of Patty Mills, who is coming off a successful NBA season with San Antonio that saw the Spurs win 20 straight games before falling in the Western Conference Finals.

The Boomers will be led by veteran power forward Matt Nielsen, who is heading to his third Olympic Games.

Olympic gold has been elusive for the Opals, who won bronze in Atlanta in 1996 before taking three consecutive silver medals, falling in the final each time to the Americans.

"We've come so close so many times," Jackson admitted.

"We want to do exceptional things for sure, but it's just going to take time.

"The next month is going to be crucial for us [but] it's going to be fun. It's going to be a lot of fun."

Jackson's WNBA team-mate Sue Bird was quoted in the press recently as saying the six-foot-six Australian centre was not a cure-all for an under-strength team.

But Jackson played that off as friendly rivalry ahead of their respective London campaigns.

"Sue's my best friend and maybe they were taken out of context, maybe she really thinks that," she said.

"I've said that a lot in media before that America could probably take their A, B and C team and get gold, silver and bronze.

"I think that we've got a very good team and we've got a chance of doing something special.

"Sue may think that's sort of the way it's going to go down but ... I don't really care, it's just banter.

"For us we're just going to go out there and do our best and that's all we've ever done for the Australian team - give it our best shot and have no regrets at the end of it."

Bird's comments came after their Seattle Storm side struggled to find traction in the early stages of the season, with critics pointing to Jackson's absence as the key factor.

"Lauren would be new to this [losing] as well, and you don't know what it would be like," Bird said last month.

"As great as she is, she's not like some magic potion where she gets added and things all of a sudden click with everybody."

One notable gap in the Opals' roster is Penny Taylor, who was ruled out of contention for London in May with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Taylor, who can play at guard or forward, is considered one of the best women's basketballers in the world and was set for her third Olympic campaign before sustaining the injury playing for her Turkish club.

Jenna O'Hea, who plays in the WNBA for Los Angeles Sparks, will be contesting her first Olympics after missing out in 2008 and is expected to step up in Taylor's absence.

Young centre Liz Cambage will join Jackson in the Opals' front court in her maiden Olympic campaign.

Jackson said Australia's line-up possessed enough depth to cover for the 31-year-old.

"Penny's role is definitely going to be missed for sure, but we'll get everybody combining together to take on that pressure, that load," she said.

"You can't really expect [O'Hea] to come in and do all that and compensate for someone like Penny.

"But we've got a lot of players that can definitely step up and that's sort of why this preparation time is crucial, so that we can really maintain and figure out roles."

Boomers: Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova, Joe Ingles, Adam Gibson, Peter Crawford, Brad Newley, David Barlow, David Andersen, Matt Nielsen, Mark Worthington, Aleks Maric, Aron Baynes

Opals: Lauren Jackson, Kristi Harrower, Belinda Snell, Jennifer Screen, Sam Richards, Rachel Jarry, Liz Cambage, Kathleen Macleod, Jenna O'Hea, Abby Bishop, Suzy Batkovic, Laura Hodges

Miami seals NBA title in five

Updated June 22, 2012 15:14:56

Miami Heat forward LeBron James realised his dream by leading his team to the NBA championship on Friday (AEST) and the man nicknamed 'King James' completed his coronation with the series most valuable player award.

James, who also picked up the regular season MVP honour for the third time in his career, led the Heat to a 4-1 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the best-of-seven championship series that was capped off by a 121-106 victory.

The dominant player throughout the series, James scored 26 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and doled out a game-high 13 assists in a brilliant all-round effort in the finale.

For Oklahoma, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined for 51 points, but it was nowhere near enough, as Miami clinched the game and the title with a 36-22 third quarter.

The Thunder tried to come back in the final quarter, but could only claw back nine points on the Heat.

"This means everything," the 27-year-old James said after being presented with the MVP trophy by Celtics great Bill Russell.

"It's a dream come true."

James, who averaged 28.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 7.4 assists in the series, won his first NBA ring on his third trip to the finals.

His Cleveland Cavaliers were swept in four games in 2007 by the San Antonio Spurs, and the Heat lost to the Dallas Mavericks in six games last season.

It was the first NBA title for Miami since the 2005-2006 season, when the team beat the Dallas Mavericks four games to two.

"Losing the finals last year put me back in place, it humbled me a lot," said James.

"Today is the happiest day of my life."

Durant leads Thunder over Miami in Finals opener

Updated June 13, 2012 14:56:34

Kevin Durant won the opening round of his highly anticipated duel with LeBron James, scoring 36 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 105-94 victory over the Miami Heat in the opening game of the NBA Finals on Wednesday (AEST).

Durant, the NBA scoring champion, hit 12-of-20 shots and added eight rebounds to help the Western Conference champions overcome a seven-point half-time deficit.

Point guard Russell Westbrook scored 27 points, and had eight rebounds and 11 assists for Oklahoma City.

Three-time MVP James scored 30 points on 11-of-24 shooting, while adding nine rebounds, but it was Durant who triggered the Thunder's 18-point turnaround in the second half.

Durant's tussle with James is widely regarded as a barometer for determining the NBA's best player, with both also seeking a first championship.

"Everybody has to come to play," said Durant, who had 17 points in the fourth quarter on six-of-10 shooting.

"Everybody played hard in the second half. We stuck together."

Speaking of his play in the final quarter, Durant said: "I'm just playing off my team-mates. I'm not trying to force anything, I just take what the defense gives me."

Miami led by as many as 13 in the opening half but fell apart in the third quarter, and when Westbrook made a three-point play late in the period to give the Thunder their first lead at 74-73, the stadium erupted.

"I thought we showed a lot of toughness in the second half," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said.

"KD (Durant) is a terrific player, a terrific scorer," he added.

"But he's a special player because he defends. We're a defensive team."

Oklahoma City held a 43-35 advantage in rebounds after losing the first-half battle on the glass 20-17.

The Heat's big first half was the result of a combination of hot shooting from beyond the arc and inconsistent play by the Thunder, who committed eight turnovers.

But the Thunder, playing in their first championship since relocating from Seattle in 2008, opened the second half on a 13-6 run to tie the score at 60-60 with just under seven minutes left in the third quarter.

Mills set to return for in-form Boomers

Updated June 14, 2012 17:22:31

On the back of a clean sweep in the series against China the Boomers have been boosted by the imminent return of Patty Mills from the NBA.

Mills will return to Australia following the elimination of his side San Antonio from the NBA finals and is set to join the Boomers camp ahead of the series in Victoria against Greece late this month.

Boomers coach Brett Brown, assistant at the San Antonio Spurs, was back in Perth on Wednesday night for the Boomers' 78-55 win over China to give Australia a 3-0 clean sweep in the series.

Daniel Kickert led all scorers with 20 points for the contest in Perth, while Julian Khazzouh added 16 points and Aron Baynes finished with 12 points.

For China, Sun Yue top-scored with 12 points, while Wang Zhizhi added nine points.

China started well, shooting at more than 50 per cent from the floor to lead 22-17 at the first break.

The turning point came in the second quarter as Chinese head coach Bob Donewald Jr was thrown out of the game after receiving two consecutive technical fouls by the referee.

Australia's Adam Gibson cashed in, scoring eight points in one play, thanks to the freethrows from the technicals, before knocking down a three-pointer off the in-bound play.

This ignited a 16-0 run, giving the Boomers a 10-point lead which they never relinquished.

"I think it's a great way to end this early camp to get three consecutive wins against a very aggressive team and for me personally to come back and see our guys again and see them play our structure again," Brown said after the match.

"It's been a good early period to get ready for such an important time-frame coming with London, so for me to start the campaign and preparation, it's been a positive."

Both sides will be strengthened for the Olympics.

Australian Boomers 78 (Kickert 20, Khazzouh 16) defeated China 55 (Yue 12, Zhizhi 9).

Miami one win away from title

Updated June 20, 2012 14:13:55

Russell Westbrook scored 43 points in game four of the NBA finals but it was not enough for Oklahoma City Thunder as the Miami Heat won 104-98 to sit one game away from the title.

Oklahoma outscored Miami by 33-19 in the opening quarter and looked set to even the series, but the Heat fought back with strong second and third quarters to set up a tense finale.

For Miami LeBron James, after going to the bench late in the fourth quarter with an injury to his left leg, returned to hit a key three-pointer that snapped a 94-94 tie and Dwyane Wade followed with a bold drive to the hoop to put Miami five points ahead.

James, who watched the end of the game from the bench, led the Heat with 26 points, while Wade and Mario Chalmers, who led the fourth-quarter charge, added 25 points each.

Russell Westbrook shot 20/32 from the floor to keep the Thunder in the game, while Kevin Durant added 28.

Miami can clinch its second NBA title since 2006 in game five at home on Friday (AEST).

Heat hang on to beat Thunder and tie series

Updated June 15, 2012 15:16:52

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade proved they were not yet ready to pass the torch to the next generation by leading the Miami Heat to a 100-96 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in game two of the NBA Finals on Friday (AEST).

James scored 32 points and Wade added 24 as the veteran-laden Heat rebounded from Tuesday night's lacklustre 105-94 setback to even the best-of-seven series at 1-1.

Oklahoma City fought back from a 13-point deficit in the last nine minutes and trailed 98-96 when Kevin Durant missed a five-footer with 10 seconds left.

James was fouled on the rebound and calmly sank two free throws with seven seconds to play to seal the victory.

"We've been down, we've withstood rallies," James told reporters. "Good thing about it is when they scored we didn't put our head down. That's a great team we're going against."

Oklahoma City's frenetic running game made Miami look old in game one and the Heat responded with an 18-2 run to open the Thursday's game and silence the 18,000 at Chesapeake Arena.

But the Thunder came roaring back with Durant scoring 16 of his 32 points in the final quarter. Durant had only six points at the half and finished the game with 12 of 22 shooting.

"It's going to take all the way down to those zeros on that clock to get a win," said James, who had eight rebounds, five assists and hit all 12 of his free throws.

"We did a really good job of contesting their shots. That allowed us to get rebounds. A good job by all of us defensively. It's always good to get a win on the road."

Thunder guard Russell Westbrook had 27 points and seven assists, while James Harden came off the bench to score 21.

"He was doing it at both ends like he has been doing it all year long," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of James.

"This is going to be probably like this every single game. That's the beauty of competition at this level."

The best-of-seven series shifts to Miami for game three on Sunday night.

Miami beats Oklahoma City to take 2-1 lead

Updated June 18, 2012 13:58:22

Miami Heat held off Oklahoma City Thunder after a scintillating fourth-quarter battle to claim a 91-85 game three victory and seize a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven National Basketball Association finals on Monday (AEST).

LeBron James led the scoring with 29 points and sank the second of two free throws with 16.2 seconds left to give Miami a four-point lead.

After the Thunder's Thabo Sefalosha threw away an inbounds pass Dwyane Wade then sank two more free throws to cap the win.

Both teams played ferocious defense down the stretch, and the Heat had to overcome nine turnovers in the fourth quarter to retain home court advantage with the next two games in Miami.

James, the NBA's Most Valuable Player, said it was hard to get good shots.

"Both teams are very active defensively," he said in an on-court interview.

"Both teams make it hard on one another to get shots.

"When you get stops you try to get early offense. It always helps. We were able to do that a little bit tonight."

Miami surged to an 86-79 lead with just over two minutes to go but the Thunder hit back with six points in a row, turning game three into a cliffhanger at 86-85 with 90 seconds left.

Miami's Chris Bosh made a pair of free throws to make it a three-point game before James and Wade finished off Oklahoma for good with free throws after being fouled.

James shot 11-of-23 from the floor, despite doing virtually all his damage from inside, and hauled down a game-high 14 rebounds.

Wade contributed 25 points for Miami, with Bosh the next highest for the Heat with 10.

Kevin Durant, who flirted with foul trouble in the second half, led Oklahoma City with 25 points and Russell Westbrook added 19.

Game four of the championship series will be played in Miami on Wednesday (AEST).

Creditors meeting to decide Blaze future

Updated June 14, 2012 08:18:21

The future of the Gold Coast's financially-troubled National Basketball League (NBL) team is expected to be decided at a meeting today.

A deed of company arrangement will be put to creditors of the Gold Coast Blaze.

Administrator Roland Robson says it could provide funds for club employees and return around seven cents in the dollar to unsecured creditors.

"It would keep it alive - keep it functioning," Mr Robson said.

"It would provide the Gold Coast community with a sports team.

"We are quite aware a number of sports teams have come and gone over the years and I think to a degree this is a positive thing to enable the Gold Coast to have an [NBL] basketball team.

"Even Brisbane doesn't have one of those at the moment."

Mr Robson says if the deed is rejected the Blaze will go into liquidation and the team will fold.

"The assets will be sold off - the Gold Coast and Queensland will lose a sports team," he said.

"There will be no licence available from Basketball Australia.

"The result will be all assets sold and distributed in priority to secured creditors and any of the floating assets sold and made available obviously for employee creditors."

There had been suggestions a wealthy investor would come to the rescue of the Blaze but Mr Robson says no deal has been finalised.

"Discussions have been made with a number of investors," Mr Robson said.

"Those discussions unfortunately were not able to be materialised fast enough in the process in which the administration has to run.

"Unfortunately we could not get a position fast enough for the investor in that time frame."

The meeting will be held at Broadbeach.

Coach Brown on his way back to Boomers

Updated June 08, 2012 20:49:35

Australian Olympic men's basketball coach Brett Brown is on his way to join his team and could take charge of the third match of their series against China in Perth next week.

Brown's San Antonio Spurs were knocked out of the NBA finals race this week, freeing the Boomers coach and star point guard Patty Mills to join Australia's Olympic Games build-up.

Assistant coach Andrej Lemanis will guide the Boomers in the first of their three-match series against China at Perth's Challenge Stadium on Saturday night.

The series then moves to Albany for game two on Monday, before the final match in Perth on Wednesday.

Brown is expected to have arrived in camp by game three.

Mills will not join his team-mates until they meet in Melbourne ahead of a three-match series against Greece later this month.

The Boomers will test all their guard options in Mills' absence against world number 10 China, with Adam Gibson, Matthew Dellavedova, Damian Martin and Peter Crawford all named in the 12-man team for game one.

Skipper Matt Nielsen will lead the side, while US college-based Ryan Broekhoff, a 21-year-old swingman, is also included.

Brown, an assistant with the Spurs, has been involved in Boomers team meetings this week via Skype.

The China series provides a timely test whether his players have added the defensive smarts and fitness Brown sees as vital to the Boomers winning a medal in London.

"Brett's made a point he wants us to be the fittest team at the Olympics," Gibson said.

"Everyone's really dug in the last year and made sure they've got in really good shape and are as fit as can be to give us the best chance to medal."

The series in Victoria later this month against Greece is likely to be against an understrength visiting side.

Greece has not yet qualified for London, and it is believed it will hold back some of its best players for the Olympic qualifying tournament in Venezuela in early July.

Australian team to play China: Damian Martin, Hugh Greenwood, Adam Gibson, Peter Crawford, Ryan Broekhoff, Matthew Dellavedova, David Barlow, Mark Worthington, Aron Baynes, Daniel Kickert, Matt Nielsen, Julian Khazzouh.

Boomer Mills to hit top form at Olympics

Updated June 12, 2012 17:54:21

Australia coach Brett Brown predicts the basketball career of Patty Mills will continue to soar after the star guard's successful stint at NBA powerhouse San Antonio Spurs.

Brown also believes Australian basketball will reap the benefits of Mills' sky-high confidence at the London Olympics.

Mills' journeyman career appeared at the cross-roads in January when his contract with Xinjiang was controversially terminated, with the Chinese club accusing him of faking a hamstring injury.

But a lifeline from San Antonio, where Brown is an assistant coach, has sparked a bright new chapter for Mills, with the former Portland guard hitting career-best form at the star-studded Spurs.

Mills nailed an impressive 27 points against Phoenix on April 25, before setting a new Australian single-game record with a 34-point haul against Golden State just one day later.

The 23-year-old was barely sighted during the play-offs as stars Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili returned to run the show, but Brown believed Mills' experience at the Spurs would prove to be career-defining.

"I think it resurrected his career," Brown said on Tuesday.

"He was caught at a cross-roads where he was in between leagues, he was in between teams.

"To be able to be brought in by such a great franchise like the Spurs and have the opportunity to again be with me ... it was a win on everyone's part.

"The Spurs were fortunate to have him, he was fortunate to have the Spurs and if you put your Boomers hat on, basketball in Australia will reap the benefits of he and I being able to be together.

"He experienced some great NBA performances.

"The relationships he shared with Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and other internationals ... you can't put a price tag on that experience."

Mills, who has the option of playing on with the Spurs next season, has remained in San Antonio to work on his fitness and skills, meaning he will miss Wednesday night's third and final clash with China in Perth.

Australia leads the series 2-0, and Brown said he was looking forward to being thrust back into the hot seat after flying in from America on Monday following San Antonio's play-off exit at the hands of Oklahoma City.

"The disappointment of getting bumped out of the NBA play-offs was significant, but to have something as exciting as the preparation of the Olympic Games waiting for me makes it a little bit easier," Brown said.

Crawford leads Boomers to win over China

Updated June 09, 2012 20:46:11

A stunning string of four three-pointers from Australian guard Peter Crawford steered the Boomers to a 66-55 win over China in Perth on Saturday night in game one of their three-match basketball series.

As both sides continue preparations for the upcoming London Olympics, Townsville guard Crawford top-scored with 21 points to give national selectors something to think about as they prepare to cut the squad further in the next two weeks.

China got off to a solid start at Challenge Stadium when they hit the first two baskets and held a narrow advantage until Crawford nailed the first of his five three-pointers.

A three-point bomb on the quarter-time buzzer from China's Guo Ailun (15 points) reduced the Boomers' lead to two points after they led by seven just 90 seconds before the first break.

Defensively the Boomers were inspired, but at the other end the shooting was timid as they converted just four of their 15 attempts.

Chinese big man Han Dejun was given his first minutes in the second term and made them count, starting China's run of four unanswered baskets that helped the visitors to a seven-point lead at half-time.

Shooting at just 21 per cent in the first half, the Boomers picked up the pace in the third term and a tip-in from Mark Worthington (11 points) in the dying seconds cut China's lead to just one point at the final change.

But it was Crawford's sizzling performance from outside the arc in the fourth quarter that sealed the game and ultimately a comfortable 11-point margin.

Game two of the series is in Albany, south of Perth, on Monday and returns to Perth on Wednesday.

Blaze gets on with business

By Charmaine Kane

Updated June 15, 2012 14:11:00

The chief executive of the Gold Coast Blaze National Basketball League team says the club is moving forward with its plans for next season.

Most creditors have voted to accept a deed of company arrangement that will allow the financially troubled club to continue operating.

Blaze CEO Paul Pamenter says the club will now address issues including sponsorship, membership and the playing roster for next season.

"We've had a number of conversations with prospective players," Mr Pamenter said.

"They've got four guys that have really been the core of our playing group now for a couple of seasons that we still have on contract for next season.

"It's really finding the right role [for] players to fit in around them next year and then finding the right couple of imports to help what we are trying to achieve on court next year.

"From a timing point of view that hasn't impacted on our ability to attract players to the Gold Coast Blaze and nor do we expect it to."

Mr Pamenter says negotiations are continuing with a potential investor.

Administrators for the Blaze say it will be some weeks before employees and unsecured creditors are paid.

Heat walk the line to take Game Three

Updated June 18, 2012 17:52:35

Miami's dominance from the free-throw line proved strong enough to quell Oklahoma City in a fierce fourth-quarter battle as the Heat claimed a 91-85 Game Three victory on Sunday and a 2-1 series lead in the NBA Finals.

The Heat outscored the Thunder 31-15 from the line, making all but four of their attempts as they cashed in on opportunities won with their relentless attacks on the rim, while Oklahoma City made just 15-of-24 from the charity stripe.

"This is competition at its highest," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters.

"We kept on mentioning that in the fourth quarter. That's what this is about. We're facing great competition. We showed some resolve there in the second half."

LeBron James, who led the scoring with 29 bruising points, drained one of his two free throws with 16.2 seconds on the clock to give Miami a four-point lead.

After Oklahoma City defensive wizard Thabo Sefolosha threw away an inbounds pass, Dwyane Wade sank two more free throws to cap the victory.

"That was a very intense play-off game," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said.

"They made some plays down the stretch and we didn't.

"We led the league in free-throw shooting percentage, but we missed some tonight and turned the ball over in the second half too many times," he added in reference to Oklahoma City's seven turnovers after the intermission.

Oklahoma City built a 10-point lead in the third quarter crowned by a four-point play by veteran guard Derek Fisher, who was fouled as he sank a three-point shot in boosting the Thunder to a 64-54 lead after trailing 47-46 at the half.

Miami closed the gap with the help of back-to-back fouls by the Thunder on three-point shots that gave the Heat six free throws on their way to a 15-3 run to close the third quarter as Durant sat on the bench with four fouls.

Both teams played ferocious defence down the stretch, and the Heat had to overcome eight turnovers in the fourth quarter to retain home-court advantage.

The next two games in the best-of-seven series are in Miami, giving the Eastern Conference champion a chance to claim the NBA crown with a pair of home victories.

James, the NBA's Most Valuable Player, said it was hard to get good shots as Miami's 37.8 per cent shooting attested.

"Both teams are very active defensively," he said.

"Both teams make it hard on one another to get shots.

"That's a great team we're going against, and defensively they have some very active players, so they kind of bring the double-team sometimes when I'm in the post or if I'm in the perimeter they kind of put two on the ball.

"I just try to take what the defence gives me, try to get into the paint."

Miami surged to an 86-79 lead with just over two minutes to go but the Thunder hit back with six points in a row, turning Game Three into a cliffhanger at 86-85 with 90 seconds left.

Miami's Chris Bosh made a pair of free throws to make it a three-point game before James and Wade finished off Oklahoma City for good from the line after attacking the basket.

James shot 11-of-23 from the floor, doing virtually all his damage from inside, and hauled down a game-high 14 rebounds. Wade contributed 25 points for Miami, with Bosh the next highest for the Heat with 10.

Kevin Durant, who played with five fouls for the last 3:47, led Oklahoma City with 25 points and Russell Westbrook added 19.

"Tough loss," said three-time NBA scoring champion Durant. "This is not over. It's not over."

Game Four of the championship series will be played on Wednesday (AEST).

Boomers seal series win over China

Updated June 12, 2012 07:54:35

Australia's men's basketball team recorded a thrilling series-clinching 69-65 win over China on Monday night in Albany.

The Boomers, who defeated China 66-55 in the first game on Saturday night, led at every break but had to overcome a sluggish start to the second quarter to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-game series.

Guard Matthew Dellavedova, looking to shine in the absence of star Patty Mills, finished with 11 points and two clutch free-throws at the death.

The two sides meet again on Wednesday, but Mills will not join his team-mates until they arrive in Melbourne for final London Olympic preparations - a three-match series against Greece later this month.

Mills, who was involved in the NBA playoffs with the San Antonio Spurs, looked to be sorely missed in the opening half.

China had eased to a 13-point lead in the second term and the hosts' shooting had slumped to 30 per cent before they rediscovered their mojo.

The Boomers went on a 14-0 run to end the first half, and were never headed despite some tense moments in the final quarter.

The two sides traded baskets in the dying moments before Aron Baynes delivered a telling lay-up with 32 seconds left on the clock, giving the Boomers a five-point advantage.

A three-pointer from China's Sun Yue, the game's top-scorer with 22 points, ensured more drama but young gun Dellavedova iced the game with less than 10 seconds remaining.

Dellavedova was sent to the line and made both free-throws to put the game out of reach.

Baynes top-scored for Australia with 15 points.

Blaze set to survive

Updated June 15, 2012 06:00:08

Gold Coast Blaze is a step closer to competing in next season's NBL.

The club went into voluntary administration last month, but has been saved from liquidation after an agreement with creditors on Thursday.

The majority of creditors have agreed to receive seven cents in the dollar of what they are owed.

Director and majority owner Owen Tomlinson is now expected to finalise negotiations with a new investor.

The Blaze has already been guaranteed a spot in the upcoming NBL season.
