A former NBL coach has been named to take charge of struggling NBA franchise Charlotte Bobcats.

Mike Dunlap, who coached Adelaide 36ers to the 1994 NBL grand final, has been appointed to guide the Bobcats, who won only seven of their 66 games in the shortened 2011/12 NBA season.

Dunlap was on the coaching staff of St John's University in the US college system and he has previously served as an assistant coach at Denver Nuggets.
