Fire snuffed out in Bendigo

Updated November 19, 2011 21:56:13

The Spirit sent Townsville home from its WNBL road trip winless with a 84-68 result at Bendigo Stadium on Saturday night.

The visitors fell to the Rangers in Dandenong on Friday night but the close affair seemed to drain the Fire.

Bendigo briefly trailed early in the first period but had built a five-point advantage at half-time which ballooned to as much as 18 in the third and final quarters.

Gabrielle Richards had a game-high 25 points and added eight rebounds for the hosts, and Tess Madgen hit four three-pointers on her way to 21 points.

Townsville got scoring firepower from Rachael Flanagan and Shanavia Dowdell, who had 16 apiece, the latter also grabbing nine boards.

Micaela Cocks added 14 points, backing up admirably from her 18-point haul against Dandenong on Friday.
