Melbourne drew level with New Zealand at the top of the NBL with an 80-63 win over Cairns at The Cage on Sunday night.

Tigers forward Cameron Tragardh top-scored for the home side with 17 points while marquee man Patty Mills dished 10 assists in the comfortable victory.

Lucas Walker and Tom Greer had 13 each for Melbourne, which now boasts the same 5-1 record as the Breakers.

The Taipans fell well behind in the first period, trailing by 17 by the first break, and the Tigers opened the gap more and more as the game went on.

Cairns made the final quarter its own, outscoring the hosts 24-16, but the eight-point advantage was not enough to cut down the gaping deficit between the two sides.

Jamar Wilson had a game-high 19 points for the visitors while Ian Crosswhite (10 points, eight boards) flirted with a double-double and Alex Loughton added 12 points.
