Cambage's Boomers douse the Fire

Elizabeth Cambage starred as the Bulleen Boomers smashed the Townsville Fire 92-75 at the Veneto Club in the WNBL on Friday night.

Cambage's 22 points and six rebounds helped propel the Boomers well past the visitors after a tight first quarter, setting up a 17-point lead at half-time and a 72-58 gap after three periods.

Rachel Jarry played a good support role with 14 points while Tayla Roberts helped herself to 12 points and seven rebounds.

Shanavia Dowdell top-scored for the Fire with 17 points and eight rebounds, while guard Jessica Foley featured with 14 points.

The result sees Bulleen remain in second spot on the WNBL ladder behind Adelaide, while Townsville sits tight in fourth.

In the night's earlier game, the Canberra Capitals clawed their way back from a third-quarter deficit to down the Sydney University Flames 72-66 at AIS Arena.

The six-point win keeps the Capitals in with a shout of a finals appearance, having come from 10 points behind after three periods.

Carly Wilson led the way with 17 points for the hosts while Marianna Tolo chipped in with 15 points and four blocks.

Alicia Poto top-scored for the Flames with 16 points and three steals, while Lauren King grabbed 10 rebounds.

Canberra sits eighth on the ladder but are within a win of fifth-placed Dandenong.

Sydney University remains well within the finals places in fourth spot.
