Aussies U-17 win world basketball silver

Australia's junior side won silver medal at the Under-17 basketball world championship in Kaunas, Lithuania losing the final 95-62 to the United States.

Dante Exum was the Australian star man hitting 21 points to cap off a fine competition which earned him a place in the All-Tournament team.

Tournament MVP Jahlil Okafor finished with 17 points for the winners.

Elsewhere, an under-23 Australian side was beaten 62-60 by Tunisia in the Stankovic Continental Cup in China.

Cairns Taipans rookie Clint Steindl and Tasmanian Hugh Greenwood both hit 11 points for the Australian side which was comprised of players who are considered future Olympians.

Tunisia's Macram Romdhane was the best player on court scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Australia can still reach the final if China beats Russia in the final preliminary game.
