Blaze to put community plan to NBL

Updated July 12, 2012 09:34:18

The future of NBL club the Gold Coast Blaze should soon be clearer.

Owner Owen Tomlinson is travelling to Sydney to meet with NBL officials today as the club tries to come up with financial guarantees to continue in the competition.

He is being accompanied by Gold Coast Basketball chief executive Allan Hilzinger who will present plans for a community-based operation.

Mr Hilzinger says he is hoping the club can secure the necessary funds to survive.

"There's still plenty of steps that have to be moved forward before we can reach that point," he said.

"But if the money is found - and the community model we're discussing is implemented - I really believe that the NBL team on the Gold Coast could be around for many years," he said.
